 INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF FUNDAMENTAL STUDIES
FACULTY OF MEDICINE

Bachelor of Nursing (Hons)

Course Content

Students develop their learning pathway to suit their own learning needs from a menu of specialist options relevant to clinical practice, education and management. The course is designed to be meaningful to nursing practice and facilitate practice development. There is a clear emphasis on reflective practice and the integration of theory and practice. At Honours level the student is expected to explore clinical topics in more depth than at first degree level.

The modules carry 30 SCOTCAT points at Level 4. The student is expected to complete four modules to gain an Honours Degree. Students can choose modules for study related specifically to their practice. Module topics are appropriate for nurses working in hospital or in the community. Where appropriate, students may negotiate a study topic of their choice in modules three and four.

Course Structure

The course structure is modular. Students may apply for accreditation for prior learning (APL) before commencing the course. Modules are studied sequentially. Students are expected to satisfactorily complete a module before moving on to the next. A learning contract is agreed between student and module tutor at the start of the module.

Assessment

Module assignments are structured in three parts. Each part is submitted for assessment sequentially providing students with continuous feedback on performance. A criterion referenced approach is used to assess student work. Students are expected to demonstrate their ability to integrate theory and practice in all course assignment work.

Student Support

Text-based study guides are used to support learning for each module. The study guide helps the student make essential links between theory and practice and prepare for module assessment. A dynamic tutorial support system operates with a tutor link to each module topic. Students are encouraged to use the tutorial system according to their need.
